snippet: "Beef on the bone will go back on sale today," announces The Express, "more than two weeks before the official end of the Government`s two-year ban." Agriculture Minister Nick Brown announced in the Commons yesterday that the ban would be lifted on December 17th, but "he gave a nod and wink" to inspectors by adding: "I know enforcement authorities will wish to take note of my statement today."
The announcement follows a report published by Sir Liam Donaldson, England`s chief medical officer, which says the risk of contracting CJD, the human form of mad cow disease, from beef on the bone "must now be considered to be tiny and unquantifiable in any meaningful way". However, he did confirm that many more cases of CJD may yet come to light because "levels of human exposure at the height of the BSE epidemic would have been high". [... more]
