Agriculture Minister Nick Brown announced in the Commons yesterday that the ban would be lifted on December 17th, but "he gave a nod and wink" to inspectors by adding: "I know enforcement authorities will wish to take note of my statement today." The announcement follows a report published by Sir Liam Donaldson, England`s chief medical officer, which says the risk of contracting CJD, the human form of mad cow disease, from beef on the bone "must now be considered to be tiny and unquantifiable in any meaningful way".
