EgyptAir Crash Latest
who: 217 dead
what: In EgyptAir Crash
where: Atlantic
when: Yesterday
snippet: "The EgyptAir jet which nosedived into the Atlantic rolled off an assembly
line immediately before an identical aircraft that also crashed," reports
The Express today. "Both Boeing 767 models were produced consecutively in
1989 just days before workers at the Seattle-based company went on strike
complaining of fatigue from forced overtime."
"The first plane went to EgyptAir, the second to Lauda Air of Austria,"
reports The Times. In May 1991, the Lauda plane was climbing to 10,000ft 45
minutes after take-off from Bangkok "when a warning light told the pilots
of a problem with an engine thrust reverser, which is engineered to work
only when the plane is on the ground. Minutes later, as the pilots
discussed what action to take, the reverser opened, sending the plane into
an uncontrollable plunge and killing all 233 aboard."
Meanwhile, the BBC reveal that rescuers have picked up a signal from the
EgyptAir plane`s black box and recovered debris from the aircraft, but
further searching is likely to be hampered by poor weather conditions.
Officials say there is no hope of finding any survivors. 217 people went
down with the aircraft when it crashed early on Sunday morning. [... more]
