NFL Legend Walter Payton Dies

snippet: "One of American football`s most famous former players, Walter Payton, has
died from a rare liver illness at the age of 45," reports the BBC this
morning. "Payton, who was the National Football League`s all-time leading
rusher, was awaiting a liver transplant after announcing in February that
he was suffering from primary sclerosing cholangitis."

Tribute have been rushing in from the sporting world for the player whose
nickname was `Sweetness`. Mike Ditka, Payton`s coach at the Chicago Bears,
said: "He was the best football player I`ve ever seen and probably one of
the best people I`ve ever met."

Payton led the Bears to their one and only Superbowl win in 1985 and
retired in 1987. He died at his home in Barrington, Chicago. [... more]
