That incident, on the same length of track, also involved one train packed with commuters speeding into the path of another, killing seven people.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott visited the scene and announced that there would be a public inquiry. Furthermore, ITN reports that he "ordered crash investigators to issue a preliminary statement on the crash within days to avoid a Southall-style delay on any safety lessons that could help prevent a repeat of the tragedy."
