snippet: Roy Keane`s lengthy pay dispute came to an end yesterday with the announcement that he will play for Manchester United for another four-and-a-half years at a salary of around £50,000 a week, including bonuses. And hours later he silenced his critics at Old Trafford with a splendid goal against Valencia in United`s UEFA cup match.
"United believe that they have made Keane the highest-paid player in the FA Carling Premiership," says The Times, "by agreeing basic wages of at least £45,000 a week. Only Marcel Desailly and Alan Shearer can approach this figure." David Beckham, tipped to be this year`s European Footballer of the Year, earns only half that amount.
Later that day, Keane proved his worth by contributing the second goal in United`s 3-0 win. The ball fell to him "on edge of the penalty area," reports The Guardian, "from where Keane drove an emphatic shot back past Palop.
