snippet: "The misery is set to continue," said Sir John Harman, chairman of the Environment Agency yesterday, as Britain was gripped by the worst flood emergency since the great floods of 1947.
"On the Severn, and possibly in Yorkshire, flooding will get much worse," he predicted onna visit to the town of Bewdley, Hereford and Worcester. The Agency has issued fourteen severe flood warnings with Yorkshire and the River Severn the chief areas of concern. "Countless people and businesses have been affected."
Meanwhile, police have lost hope of finding 28 year-old Ian Tompkins, 28, who "plunged into a tributary of the River Nene in Northamptonshire to rescue his partner and their two dogs," says The Express. "If his body is found, it will bring the number of people killed to eight."
And elsewhere in The Express, a report by Adrian Lee warns that 30,000 people in the Dover area of Kent may be under threat from deadly contaminated drinking water.
