Police Seek Ten Boys In Damilola Case
who: Metropolitan police
what: Seek ten boys in hunt for Damilola Taylor killers
where: PECKHAM - SE15
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Detectives hunting for the killers of Damilola Taylor are searching for up to ten young boys," reports crime correspondent Stewart Tendler in The Times this morning. The children were seen loitering outside nearby Peckham Library in London when ten-year-old Damilola left school last Monday. Shortly afterwards, he was fatally stabbed in the leg and died on the steps of a block of flats.
A special service at Peckham Methodist Church yesterday paid tribute to Damilola, whose family moved to London from Nigeria three months ago so that his sister could receive specialist medical treatment. "We hope that the outrage and sorrow expressed by politicians will not be words at a convenient moment but a springboard to improve the quality of life in Peckham when the headlines have ceased," he told the 100-strong congregation.
Three people have so far been arrested in connection with the case. And later yesterday, Detective Superintendent David Dillnutt once again refuted claims that the murder was the result of racist bullying.
"We have no evidence of this," he said yesterday. "The family is not saying this is a racial incident or a racist attack. We simply do not know if there is a link between the bullying that had been complained of by Damilola`s family and his death."
In other news, a 13-year-old boy was in a stable condition after he was robbed and stabbed in broad daylight yesterday in Hackney Wick, North-East London. [... more]
