More Storms Hit British Isles

A "vigorous depression" was forming in the Atlantic off the coast of Portugal yesterday, reports The Financial Times. It hit the south-west coast last night and is expected to shift to Northern Ireland today before hitting western Scotland this evening. The Environment Agency has issued 132 flood warnings in England and Wales overnight and two severe flood warnings on the River Monnow in south-east Wales.

"More than a dozen people had to be airlifted from a caravan park in Devon," says the BBC, "and a 30-year-old man became stuck to his waist in thick mud during the evacuation."

"Up to three inches of rain are expected to deluge some areas over the next three days," says The Express, "bringing chaos in communities still drying out after the floods of late October."

Police and emergency services in Devon and Cornwall have reported dozens of incidents overnight with flooding causing accidents on the A38, A39 and A30, and the Met Office has warned that high winds will probably cause "some structural damage". [... more]
