Taylor "took a machete to England`s over-30s" when he announced his squad for the friendly international against Italy in Turin next Wednesday. It`s the right decision to bring in new blood, agrees Ron Atkinson in The Guardian, although he grumbles that Lee Hendrie and Ashley Cole have not been given a chance.

"One player I`m particularly excited about is Paul Robinson," he says, singling out the Leeds goalie who joins his team-mate Alan Smith in the fresh-faced squad.
