Boro Humiliated In North-East Derby
who: Newcastle United
what: Beat Middlesbrough 1-3
where: Riverside Stadium, MIDDLESBROUGH
when: Last night
snippet: "The North-East was gripped in early winter chill last night," writes Dominic Fifield n The Guardian, "but the swathes of Newcastle fans did not feel the icy cold as they basked in smug victory."
With goals from Alan Shearer, Alain Goma and Kieron Dyer, Newcastle United left the Riverside Stadium 1-3 victors over Middlesbrough, taking the Toon Army to third place in the Premiership.
"Brian Deane got a consolation for Boro with the last kick of the game," says The Star`s Ian Murtagh. But the knives are finally out for Middlesbrough manager Bryan Robson, who has not won a home game since April.
"The belief is not there at home," complains Bryan Robson in The Sun, after being booed and jeered by fans last night. "The players don`t seem to take responsibility."
"We`re in a pressurised industry, but this is October, for heaven`s sake," says Newcastle boss Bobby Robson in The Times. "I`ve got a lot of sympathy for Bryan, but he`s got to keep strong, get his morale up and work through this. I know from my time as England manager that he has the right qualities for a battle."
