Barak Struggles To Form Emergency Government

After 26 days of violence between Israeli troops and Palestinian protestors in the West Bank and Gaza, talks on forming an emergency Israeli government broke down with the hawkish leader of opposition party Likud saying that he would only join a government in which he had "real influence over the diplomatic process".
Meanwhile, says David Dillon in The Express, "further violence exploded yesterday after Israel shelled a Palestinian village, hitting the bedroom of two young children." Furthermore, two Palestinians were reported dead from wounds sustained earlier in the crisis.
If it is eventually successful, the Israeli coalition will not be popular with Mr Barak`s own One Israel Party, says The Times. Likud "has been widely condemned for setting off the uprising," writes Sam Kiley, "which has led to the deaths of 120 Palestinians and eight Israeli Jews in less than a month." [... more]
