After Miami Dade county election officials abandoned a manual recount of 618,000 votes because there was not time to count them before Sunday night`s deadline, the Democratic Party attempted to obtain a state Supreme Court order to force the recount to go ahead. Yesterday, the Court rejected the Party`s appeal. Nevertheless, the race is far from over - the leader of the Democratic Party in Florida believes that Mr Gore "could still gain enough extra votes from the recounts in Broward and Palm Beach counties to overtake Mr Bush," reports the BBC. Meanwhile, the Republican camp has filed an appeal with the US Supreme Court to have all of the manual recounts declared invalid.
