As he named the 24-man England squad for next Saturday`s friendly against France in Paris, there`s much speculation in the press today over England`s gameplan for the coming World Cup qualifiers at home to Germany and away to Finland in October.

"If I`m going to go from here, someone is going to sack me," he told a press conference yesterday. "I`m under the same pressure as a league manager; I live and die by results. So obviously Germany and Finland coming up are big games, but I`m trying to concentrate on France."

"Continuity rules" in the England line-up, says Henry Winter in The Telegraph. "All but three of Keegan`s 22-man summer squad have been retained, those missing out being Richard Wright (dropped), Robbie Fowler (injured) and Alan Shearer (retired)".

Keegan confirmed that Tony Adams will be England`s new captain, who has captained the side before, says Glenn Moore in The Independent, "but only as a deputy and this appointment is long overdue. Given the creaking state of his limbs and back, it may also be a short-lived one". [... more]
