Britain Hit By Second Day of Storms
who: 12 year-old Rikkilee Rigg
what: Saves his little brother and dog from rising tides
where: MILLOM
when: Yesterday
snippet: "The worst storms in a decade battered the south of England from Cornwall to Kent on Monday," reports The Financial Times, "leaving at least three people dead and causing millions of pounds worth of damage."

"A second tornado hit the south while blizzards blitzed the north. On land, winds reached 92 mph. At sea, speeds reached a horrifying 150mph," says The Mirror. But worst of all, "it`s not over yet".

The Express and The Mirror both cover the story of heroic schoolboy Rikkilee Rigg who carried his little brother over one shoulder and his border collie Megan over the other when they were trapped in chest-high water by a sudden high tide in Millom, Cumbria.

"We were throwing stones into the water and throwing the ball for Megan to run after and we didn`t notice the tide was cutting us off," says Rikkilee. The boys were later rescued by coastguard and treated for slight hypothermia. [... more]
