Axe Drops On Taylor After Fifth Defeat
who: Leicester City
what: Sack manager Peter Taylor
where: Filbert Street, LEICESTER
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Following their fifth defeat of the season, a 2-0 loss away to Charlton Athletic, Peter Taylor was last night relieved of his duties as manager of Leicester City," reports Peter Lansley in The Times, "the bottom-placed club in the FA Barclaycard Premiership."

His team lost an FA Cup quarter-final tie at home to Wycombe before enduring a desperate run of nine League defeats in the last 10 games."
"The former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp is the clear favourite for the post," says Alan Nixon in The Independent. "Redknapp has admitted that he is restless at Portsmouth, where he is director of football and is believed to be keen for a return to hands-on management." Former Arsenal and Tottenham manager George Graham is also tipped to take over.
"Taylor`s contract still has 21 months to run so he can expect to pocket around £750,000 in compensation," explains The Mirror. "That golden handshake was drawn up after Taylor stayed loyal to City when he could have joined the England set-up full-time." [... more]
