snippet: "PM Tony Blair will fly to Washington on Concorde next week after a cautious breakthrough in his quest for Middle East peace," reports The Sun.
Mr Blair will fly to Washington to brief President George Bush on his meetings with leaders from Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Palestinian Authority. "He is then likely to fly back to London immediately for a meeting with Ariel Sharon, the Israeli Prime Minister," says The Independent.
His meeting with Mr Sharon yesterday was another humiliation, says The Guardian`s Patrick Wintour. The Israeli leader refused to hold talks with the Palestinians and enthusiastically defended Israel`s controversial policy of assassinating suspected terrorists.
"What will bring peace earlier?" he asked on the day that two Palestinian militants were killed by Israeli helicopters on the West Bank, "that they kill another 30, 40, 50 Israeli citizens, or that they be stopped on their way there?"
Later, Mr Blair met with Yasser Arafat in Gaza and warned of the "a gulf of misunderstanding between the Arab and Muslim world and the Western world", reports The Financial Times.
"What the bin Ladens of this world want to do is to widen that gulf," he said. "They want to put Islam against Christianity. They want to put Arab against the westerner or America. That way lies disaster." [... more]
