He began by giving "a bone-chilling description of the consequences if Osama bin Laden should have nuclear weapons" and then threatened America`s wavering allies that they would "be held accountable for inactivity".

"Some nations don`t want to contribute troops we understand that," he said in a televised address. "But all nations, if they want to fight terrorism, must do something... You are either with us or against us."

Tony Blair will be in Washington DC today to brief the president on the results of his Middle East mission last week and his impromptu European summit at Downing Street at the weekend. Meanwhile, hot on the heels of Britain`s foreign secretary Jack Straw, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has gone to Moscow "to focus the coalition`s diplomatic campaign on Russia," says The Independent.

"US aircraft are now flying up to 120 sorties a day as they work closely with the Northern Alliance," explains The Times, following a Pentagon announcement that 15,000lb fuel-air bombs, with the destructive power of a small nuclear device, have been dropped on the Taliban front-line.
