snippet: Britain`s Dean Macey fought off numerous injury worries to win a bronze medal in the decathlon at the World Championships in Edmonton last night.
In front after the first five events on Monday, he was dogged by an elbow injury, groin strain, torn adducter and torn hamstring and eventually dropped to third place after eight events behind gold medallist Tomas Dvorak (Czech Republic) and Olympic champion Erki Nool (Estonia), who took the silver.
"Despite the injury," reports The Sun, Macey "managed an amazing effort in the 110m hurdles and then a great display in the discus." He finished with a personal best points total of 8603.
"I keep saying I never think about Sydney - even though I do," said the 23-year-old from Canvey Island, who admitted to mixed feelings last night, "and one of the reasons I`m so chuffed now is that I know what I felt like after giving 110 per cent last year and coming home with nothing in my pocket.
