"At half-time Arsenal were 2-0 down and deservedly so," says David Lacey in The Guardian. "For 45 minutes Aston Villa were the better organised, more alert team and took their chances with alacrity."
Villa had the game sewn up and in his half-time team talk, manager John Gregory warned that his team must avoid conceding early in the second period. "And lo and behold," Gregory said later, quoted in The Independent, "we gave away a sloppy goal before I`d even left the dressing-room."
"In the past we used to lose games like this but now we have shown our strength," said Henry afterwards. "We proved ourselves against Manchester United and Juventus and this all shows how strong we are going to be this season."
