Faldo Flattened And Ballesteros Battered
who: Nick Faldo
what: Humiliated by Irishman Padraig Harrington in Cisco World Match Play championship
where: WENTWORTH
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Nick Faldo, playing on the course he knows best - and loves the most - in all of golf, was not just beaten but totally humiliated by Padraig Harrington in the first round of the Cisco World Match Play championship yesterday," says The Guardian`s David Davies from Wentworth.

"On a day when Thomas Bjorn defeated Adam Scott by the same 4 & 3 margin as Ian Woosnam dispatched Retief Goosen, and Sam Torrance had the better of Seve Ballesteros at the 34th," says The Telegraph, "Harrington was quick to explain why he was not apologising for his victory."

"Any player can come back at any time," he said, "and Faldo is someone who is never going to give up. If I`d given him half a chance, he would have staged a comeback."

48 year-old Ryder Cup boss Sam Torrance had been due to spend the tournament as a BBC commentator before his last minute call-up on Tuesday, says The Independent. "This is certainly better than watching," he said afterwards. In the quarter-finals today (Friday) Thomas Bjorn will play Lee Westwood, Colin Montgomerie will play Ian Woosnam, Darren Clarke takes on Padraig Harrington and Sam Torrance lines up against Vijay Singh.
