"Hussain admits that he initially wondered about making the trip but is now raring to go," reports The Mirror`s Martin Rogers on a tour that almost never happened because five key players wavered and two (Andrew Caddick and Robert Croft) eventually elected to stay at home.

"I had to think about my family," the England skipper said yesterday. "I am like anyone else. I had to make those decisions. But it is my job and it is my responsibility. The safety aspects are out of our hands now and they will be dealt with. I just want to worry about the cricket. That should be more than enough to keep us occupied."

He described England`s first trip to India since 1992-3 as "the greatest challenge of my career" and it`s hard to argue with him, says The Guardian`s Mike Selvey, who delves into the record books to find that England have only beaten India at home six times in 25 years and warns ominously that earlier this year, India "turned over an Australian team that ranks with the all-timers, in what many regard as the finest of all series."
