Hamiltons Refused To Talk To Police

snippet: "Detectives investigating the rape allegation involving Neil and Christine Hamilton twice approached the couple asking for their version of events before they were finally arrested on Friday," reports the Evening Standard.

"The Hamiltons have slated the police over the decision to arrest them, saying that the detectives were wrong to do so before the couple had an opportunity to put their side of the story," says a report by Vikram Dodd and Nick Hopkins in The Guardian. "But yesterday the police sources said that detectives in the last four weeks made two verbal approaches to the Hamilton`s solicitor, Michael Coleman."

Former Tory Minister Mr Hamilton and his wife were accused of taking part in an orgy in Ilford on May 5th at which a woman was allegedly raped. They strenuously deny the allegations. Mr Coleman says he has provided police with considerable evidence to show that their involvement was impossible and yesterday Christine Hamilton lashed out at "Mr Plod" for intercepting messages of goodwill from the public.

"I know an enormous number of people have been sending me emails," she said, quoted in The Mirror, "but I can`t get at them because the police have, to my mind, stolen our computers and some Mr Plod is probably reading what they`ve sent to me. If they are not enraged by that, I am." [... more]
