Tory MPs Protest Over Eurosceptic Shadow Cabinet
who: Iain Duncan Smith
what: Causes discontent over appointment of rebel Eurosceptics in shadow cabinet
where: LONDON
when: Yesterday
snippet: Iain Duncan Smith was warned by senior Tories yesterday "that he had made a rod for his own back by packing his Shadow Cabinet with Eurosceptics and former backbench rebels," writes The Times` Melissa Kite. Moderate party members are described by the Independent as being "incensed by the appointments of Bill Cash, a hardline Eurosceptic, as shadow Attorney General, and of the maverick right-winger Eric Forth as shadow Leader of the Commons."

The view of the new leader, "who said he would never accept it was right for Britain to join the euro during the lengthy and damaging Tory leadership contest", will become the official party line, The Telegraph reveals.
One senior MP, quoted in the Times, said, "some of the most disloyal members of the party who have caused trouble for the last decade are now going to be demanding unparalleled loyalty from us." The split in the party was further underlined by another pro-euro Tory MP, who said in the Independent, "We are astonished and appalled by the make-up of the frontbench team. The appointment of Bill Cash is the final proof that the lunatics have taken over the asylum."
