Television company Celador called in the police in September over suspicions that Major Charles Ingram "won the £1m jackpot using secret coughing signals from an audience member," says The Independent. "Major Ingram, 38, denies any wrongdoing and has threatened to sue for the money." As well as Major Ingram and his wife Diana, who live in Easterton, Wiltshire, another contestant on the show, Tecwen Whittock from Cardiff, was also arrested. They were questioned by the Metropolitan Police Special Inquiry Team. Mr Whittock, who won £1,000 on the quiz after getting the £8,000 question wrong, has publicly admitted that he did "cough while the major was in the hot seat," says the BBC, but insists that "many other people in the studio did too".
