Burrell Bans Sun Revelations
who: Princess Diana`s butler Paul Burrell
what: Awarded injunction against The Sun to prevent publication of statements to police
where: LONDON
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Royal butler Paul Burrell today opens the palace doors on his sensational one-to-one summit with the Queen," announces The Mirror today, introducing the exclusive all the other papers wanted. "Speaking for the first time, he gives a remarkable insight into the three-hour meeting with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, which led to the collapse of his Old Bailey trial last week."
At the heart of the report is Mr Burrell`s assertion that the Queen warned him to be vigilant in a meeting he describes as "deadly serious".
"Nobody, Paul has been as close to a member of my family as you have," said the Queen, according to Mr Burrell`s version of events, published for the first time today. And she added, mysteriously, "There are powers at work in this country about which we have no knowledge."
Although the rest of the papers have picked the story clean, there`s a certain churlishness to the coverage. The Sun, for instance, says that the Spencer family is furious about the coverage while 64 year-old Colin Tebbutt, a police officer on Princess Diana`s staff, tells the world that Mr Burrell is a liar for claiming to be the only person outside the immediate family invited to her burial at Althorp. "I was there but have never talked about it," he says. Interestingly, Paul Burrell was granted an injunction against The Sun yesterday, although precisely what they were threatening to publish is of course not yet publicly known.
Burrell will give his first TV interview on ITV1`s Tonight with Trevor McDonald programme on Sunday, reports The Evening Standard. "And he has been lined up to host a TV quiz show called What The Butler Saw, which delves into newspaper stories, social history, scandal and the royals." [... more]
