Arafat Under Siege After Tel Aviv Suicide Bomb

snippet: "The Middle East peace process was left in tatters yesterday by a day of carnage," says The Mirror. "A suicide bomber blew himself up on a crowded bus in Tel Aviv, killing five and wounding 50 - including two teenage Britons."
"The bus bomb in Allenby Street hit cafés and restaurants packed during the lunch hour and the main synagogue in Israel`s commercial hub," says Ross Dunn in The Times. "Passengers leapt from windows as the bus rolled out of control down the street, with the body of the driver slumped at the wheel. Ten of the injured were reported to be in a serious condition."
"There had been no suicide attack in Israel since August 4, the longest pause since the intifada began two years ago," says The Guardian. But in an immediate act of retribution, Israel sent tanks back into Yasser Arafat`s compound in Ramallah.
"Israeli forces have already arrested some people in the compound," says the BBC this morning. "The Palestinian leader`s spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeinah, told the BBC Mr Arafat`s life was in real danger and said it was very possible Israel would exile him to the Gaza Strip or abroad."
"Israeli forces blew up a building next to Mr Arafat`s office," says The Independent. "The building housed one of the Palestinian security forces, witnesses said. Meanwhile in Gaza City, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire early today." [... more]
