snippet: The christmas Number One is `Sound of the Underground` by Girls Aloud, narrowly beating their Pop Stars: The Rivals male rivals, One True Voice. Dotmusic`s James Masterton explains that the song was originally recorded by the "aborted girl band project called Orchid back in 2001" and the vocals for this version were in fact recorded before the final line-up of Girls Aloud had been decided, with the unsuccessful applicants "deleted from the final mix". As for the boys, they are of course at Number Two with their double-A-side `Sacred Trust/After You`re Gone`, knocking last week`s Number Two, `The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)` by The Cheeky Girls down one place to Three and last week`s chart-topper, `Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word` by Blue and Elton John, down to Four.
There are a couple of other new entries in the Top Ten - `You`re A Superstar` by Love Inc at Seven and `Sk8er Boi` by Avril Lavigne (following up her Top Three hit `Complicated`) at Nine.
