snippet: Four days before the start of the 34th Ryder Cup, US and European captains Curtis Strange and Sam Torrance showed "that there is real iron in their fists," writes John Hopkins in The Times, "and that their gloves are none too velvety, either".
"Strange was direct to the point of bluntness when the subject was raised of Tiger Woods` dislike of being thrown out of his usual routine in Ryder Cup week," says The Scotsman. The world Number One recently complained that late night black-tie socials weren`t compatible with the fitness regime of a top sportsman. Fittingly, his captain told the press that the matter had been settled over dinner.
"It`s been handled," said Strange. "He`s a team player."
Moreover, Torrance and Strange were "on the same page when it came to the issue of playing all 12 members of their sides more than once," continues The Scotsman`s report on yesterday`s joint press conference.
