Charity Bungee Jump Ends In Tragedy

what: Makes no comment after 22 year-old 18 stone man falls to his death in charity jump
where: SWANSEA
when: Yesterday
snippet: "A 22-year-old man has died in hospital after falling around 60 feet to the ground while completing a charity bungee jump," reports The Evening Standard. "The man, who has not been named, was taking part in a Bank Holiday fundraising event at the Barn Inn and Restaurant in Morriston, Swansea, south Wales."
"Witnesses said the harness appeared to slip from the man`s ankles as it began to tense at the bottom of a 60 foot jump from a crane," says The Independent. The man, reportedly weighing 18 stone, was rushed unconscious to nearby Morriston Hospital where he died of head and spinal injuries. The event had been organised to raise £5,000 for the hospital`s neurosurgery department.
"It could have happened to me and the thought terrifies me," says Sian Jenkins, who did the jump immediately before the victim, quoted in The Telegraph. The organisers, Freefall Bungee Wales of Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, have declined to comment.
"It is the second bungee jump death in the UK," recalls The Times. "In 1986 a stuntman died while practising a 120ft bungee jump for BBC Television`s The Late Late Breakfast Show, presented by Noel Edmonds." [... more]
