Hoon Didn`t Tell Whole Truth
who: Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon
what: Attended meeting where decision was made to "name" Dr David Kelly, says adviser
where: The High Court, LONDON
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, failed to disclose to the Hutton Inquiry details of a meeting in which he approved the strategy to release David Kelly`s name," says The Telegraph today. "New evidence yesterday on the closing day of the inquiry`s first stage shifted the spotlight back on to Mr Hoon and made it more likely that he will be recalled for cross-examination when Lord Hutton`s hearing resumes on Sept 15."
"The disclosure appears to contradict Mr Hoon`s evidence to the inquiry in which he made no mention of the meeting," says The Guardian, "and insisted he was not involved in any discussions about the outing strategy."

"He was taken aback by the way Andrew Gilligan tried to elicit information from him," says Mrs Bosch. "Gilligan said he`d name him some names and the first name he mentioned very quickly was Campbell."
"Mr Kelly apparently killed himself after he was exposed as the source of Mr Gilligan`s Today programme report alleging the government had `sexed up` the dossier in the run-up to war," The Financial Times reminds us, "against the wishes of the intelligence services. The report sparked a bitter battle between the BBC and the government that has still not been resolved." [... more]
