Girl, 7, Shot Dead In Murder Mile
who: Metropolitan police
what: Seek killer of seven year-old girl and her father
where: LONDON
when: Yesterday
snippet: "A seven-year-old girl who had only recently arrived in Britain was shot dead with her father in his northwest London flat yesterday," says The Times this morning. "Police were called to the flat shortly after midnight on Sunday morning after neighbours reported a disturbance. Officers found the girl and a 41-year-old man with gunshot wounds. They were taken to separate West London hospitals where both later died."
The girl may have disturbed her father`s killer, according to speculation in The Telegraph. "Neighbours heard no gunshots but one woman was alerted by what sounded like the girl screaming, first in terror and then in pain." The Mirror says the youngster was shot in the back.
The father, a Jamaican who had lived in this country for 13 years, "had served time in jail for drugs and had survived a recent shooting," says The Sun. "A woman identified him simply as Toney yesterday as she laid flowers outside the bedsit in Kensal Green, North West London."
"They call this murder mile," says 30 year-old local Jonathan Davis, quoted in The Scotsman. "This area frequently has police around it, and I think there is quite a lot of crime but it doesn’t touch most of the residents. It’s very unusual for a family to be affected." [... more]
