snippet: Prince Edward and wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, had a premature 4lb 9oz baby daughter in November, which they eventually named Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor. But as usual there was little other good news for the royal family. At the same time, Edward`s brother Charles was embroiled in a sexual scandal which, due to a court injunction, couldn`t legally be discussed by the British media but was widely aired on the internet. Whatever it was, he staunchly denied it. Paul Burrell published his book about the private life of Princess Diana, claiming that she predicted a conspiracy to kill her in a car, that Prince Philip disapproved of Charles`s affair with Camilla and that Earl Spencer accused Diana of being mentally ill. Woeful security was exposed when "comedy terrorist" Aaron Barschak found his way into Prince William`s 21st birthday party at Windsor Castle. The Queen, who had only spent one night in hospital in 20 years, had an operation on torn cartilege in January and was back at the end of the year for a knee op. Meanwhile, the oblivious Prince Harry got a B and a D in his A-levels, went to Australia to become a "jackeroo" and then got drunk with the victorious England Rugby squad. [... more]
