Beckham Injury Not Serious
who: David Beckham
what: Should be fit for crucial Euro 2004 qualifier
where: Istanbul
when: October 11th
snippet: "The word from Madrid had Sven Goran Eriksson breathing a little easier yesterday," says The Independent`s Paul Giblin, "with David Beckham`s foot injury appearing to be less serious than at first thought. "His foot strapped, limping heavily and clearly uncomfortable, Beckham missed training on Sunday and was again unable to train fully yesterday morning in Las Rozas, outside Madrid."

"He admitted over the weekend he was unsure if the injury would prevent him from turning out for England in Istanbul next month," says the BBC.

"I really don`t know," he answered, when asked how seriously he had been hurt, "the ankle is hurting at the moment and we`ll have to wait and see."

"A Real Madrid spokesman said last night that, despite missing the trip to Portugal, the England captain could be playing competitively again as soon as Sunday evening," says The Guardian`s Simon Talbot, "when Real Madrid face Espanyol at the Bernabéu."

Meanwhile, a Sun photographer has snapped Beckham walking hand in hand with his wife Victoria and takes the opportunity to make fun of the "tea cosy" on his head. [... more]
