13 Arrested In Anti-Terror Swoop
who: MI5
what: Coordinates nationwide series of raids on suspected terrorists
when: Yesterday
snippet: "Thirteen al-Qaeda suspects arrested last night had been under surveillance for weeks," says The Sun. "Armed police seized the Muslim men in a wave of raids across the country following a top secret operation involving MI5."

"One moment everything was really quiet and normal," says 48 year-old Julie Worsley from Blackburn who had been walking her dog when police raided a property near her newsagent`s shop on Preston Old Road, "the next there were all these cars on the other side of the road and a lot of men got out of the cars with guns."

"The men are all aged in their 20s and 30s and were detained after operations in London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Lancashire," says the ITV news website. "A number of homes were searched by police overnight."

The Mirror speculates that the arrests may be linked to the capture of terrorist Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani in Pakistan last week. "Britain has been put on a state of heightened alert after the discovery of emails about attacks here and in America on Ghailani`s computer."

"The terror suspects are to be questioned at top security Paddington Green police station in central London," says Sky News. [... more]
