British Grand Prix Goes Ahead

snippet: The British Grand Prix will be on to the Formula One calendar next year after all. Minister for sport Richard Caborn has brokered a deal between Formula One`s 74 year-old multi-millionaire promoter Bernie Ecclestone and Silverstone`s owners, the British Racing Drivers` Club (BRDC), which will be signed today.
"But it is likely to be for one year only and not the seven originally demanded by Ecclestone," writes Kevin Eason in The Times. "Neither side will worry, though, if this means that months of bartering and bickering are brought to an end."
"This is a great day for the future of the motor industry in the UK," says Mr Caborn, quoted on The Evening Standard`s website, thisislondon.com. "We have been working with the East Midlands Development Agency and the local authority to develop this industrial cluster at Silverstone and this should not only secure the long-term future of the all the teams operating out of the UK but will give the opportunity for others to join."
However, it does not mean the British Grand Prix will be back for good. If the facilities at Silverstone "are not improved by the time the contract runs out," Ecclestone tells The Mirror, "it won`t be renewed." [... more]
