Man Utd v Arsenal - Pizza Will Fly
who: Arsenal
what: To play Manchester United in Carling Cup quarter-final
where: Old Trafford, MANCHESTER
when: November 30th or December 1st
snippet: "Pizzas, soup and flying sandwiches are likely to be locked in the kitchen," jokes The Guardian`s Mark Ogden, "when Manchester United and Arsenal renew hostilities in the Carling Cup quarter-finals this month with egos and reputations still bearing bruises after the infamous tunnel bust-up which marred United`s 2-0 victory over the Premiership champions on October 24."
The bitter rivals were drawn to play one another in the fifth round yesterday after United earned their place with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in which Louis Saha scored his first goal for seven months and Kieran Richardson (described by The Telegraph`s Sam Wallace as "the most consistent player in United`s reserves") scored his second for the club in the 39th-minute.
Liverpool will play Tottenham Hotspur after rookie striker Neil Mellor ("whose only previous goal for Liverpool came in a League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United two years ago," The Telegraph`s William Johnson informs us) scored twice in the last seven minutes of last night`s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at Anfield.
Watford will play host to Portsmouth and Fulham (who beat Nottingham Forest 2-4 after extra time at the City Ground) will play Chelsea, who hammered Newcastle United 0-2 at St James` Park, thanks to a "thrilling" 20-yard drive by Eidur Gudjohnsen and a "sublime" individual effort by substitute Arjen Robben whose recent form, says Tim Rich in The Independent, "hints at greatness".
