snippet: After a long journey north last night, League One strugglers Bournemouth pulled off a giant-killing in the Carling Cup second round, beating Premiership side Blackburn Rovers on penalties after holding them to a 3-3 draw after extra time at Ewood Park.

Meanwhile, Southampton thrashed Northampton Town 0-3, Aston Villa beat visiting QPR 3-1, Fulham beat Paul Gascoigne`s Boston United 1-4 at York Street and Tottenham Hotspur showed no mercy to Oldham at Boundary Park where they went home 0-6 winners. Finally, The Guardian reports that West Bromwich Albion manager Gary Megson has got two games to save his job after his team were unceremoniously dumped out of the Carling Cup by lowly Colchester United on Tuesday night.
