snippet: 157,000 spectators and more than one billion people throughout China watched world champion Michael Schumacher finish 12th in the country`s first ever Grand Prix in Shanghai yesterday, reports The Times. Jenson Button (BAR) came second, followed by Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren), but Ferrari`s Rubens Barrichello was victorious, securing second place in the championship season, having led the race almost from start to finish.
"Schumacher made a series of errors during the race, which he started from the pit lane after spinning on his qualifying lap on Saturday," says the BBC. "Having barged into Christian Klien`s Jaguar on lap 12, the German spun three laps later. He then suffered a shredded left rear tyre after 35 laps, forcing him into three pits stops instead of the intended two."
"When the leaves start turning brown and Michael Schumacher`s latest world championship is safely in the bag, Rubens Barrichello begins to win races," remarks The Guardian`s Richard Williams. "Taking advantage of a mistake in qualifying which forced his Ferrari team-mate to start at the back of the field, the Brazilian followed his first victory of the season at Monza a fortnight ago by writing his name at the top of the first page of the history of this brand-new race."
