`Bomb` Plane Resumes Journey

snippet: "A plane made an emergency landing at Stansted yesterday after the terrified pilot was told that there was a bomb on board `for Iraq`," says The Mirror. "Olympic Airlines Flight 411 from Athens to New York was diverted after a Greek newspaper received two anonymous telephone calls about the terror threat."

"Two RAF Tornados were scrambled from Coningsby, Lincs, on a `detect, defer or destroy` mission and the Airbus 340 landed at 3.30pm," says The Telegraph. The 300 passengers and crew were evacuated within 20 minutes of landing and a six hour search of the aircraft began. But the threat appears to have been a hoax

"The plane has now been thoroughly searched and police are satisfied there is no threat to safety," an Essex Police spokeswoman told the BBC this morning. "The aircraft will be refuelled and prepared for its onward flight."

"Greek authorities appeared baffled as to why the country`s national airline should be targeted," says The Guardian. "Greece has traditionally good relations with the Arab world and was against the invasion of Iraq." [... more]
