Charles To Marry Camilla on April 8th
who: Prince Charles
what: To marry Camilla Parker-Bowles
where: Windsor Castle, WINDSOR
when: April 8th
snippet: The Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles will marry in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle on April 8th. Clarence House made the official announcement on Thursday morning after the news broke in The Evening Standard`s morning editions.
Camilla will be known as HRH the Duchess of Cornwall but she have no constitutional role, explains The Independent. However, she will no longer have to suffer the indignity of being barred from the Royal table at certain official functions. "When Charles becomes King, she will be known as Princess Consort, a title similar to that last commonly used by Queen Victoria to describe Prince Albert."
The couple attended a charity gala at the Castle on Thursday evening, where Camilla showed off her diamond and platinum engagement ring to the waiting photographers.
"I am just coming down to earth," she said, quoted in The Sun. Asked if Charles got down on one knee to propose, she said: "Of course. What else?"
There will be no repeat of the Prince`s extravagant first wedding, says The Times, but "the couple are keen that the event should be seen on live television". The guest list and the identity of the Best Man are still unknown, but the ceremony is likely to be strictly for family and friends, plus a handful of political dignitaries.
There remains the question of the Prince`s role as a Church leader. The marriage is known to have the support of Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who will give the newlyweds a blessing in St George`s Chapel, and his predecessor George Carey. The Church of England bars divorcees from remarrying in church, hence the ceremony conducted by registrar. But some argue that as a supposedly committed Anglican and religious figurehead, remarriage would compromise the moral authority the future Supreme Governor of the Church of England, particularly as his wife`s husband is still alive.
