"Around 500 jobs will be cut at two factories and offices in Slough, and 200 posts are to go at the company`s other plants in Leicestershire, Peterborough, King`s Lynn and Leeds." In other employment news, The Guardian says 1,730 BBC marketing & communications, human resources and legal & business affairs staff have been given the sack, saving the corporation £139million-a-year by 2008. Meanwhile, figures published by The Independent this week revealed that BP`s chief exec, Lord Browne of Madingley, received a 39% pay increase last year, taking his total pay package to £7,839,000.
