Elsewhere in the courts, a jury at Winchester Crown Court cleared police officers Mark Witcher and Andy Lang of raping a woman but Mr Justice Davis called them a disgrace to their uniform and jailed them for 15 months for misconduct in public office; two 17 year-old bullies were sentenced to terms of eight months and 18 months by Bournemouth Crown Court for the manslaughter of 16 year-old non-swimmer David Berry, who drowned when they pushed him into the river Stour in Dorset after a GSCE exam last June; and finally the BBC reports that 17 year-olds John Sawdon and Jermaine James and 16 year-old Rebecca Peeters "have been jailed for life for hacking a friend to death with two scythes in a field near Sheffield".
