snippet: Tony Christie`s `(Is This The Way To) Amarillo` has finally been dislodged from the top of the chart. He drops to Number Two this week to be replaced by rap newcomer Akon with `Lonely`, featuring a comically speeded-up sample of Bobby Vinton`s `Mr Lonely` (à la Sweety The Chick or, for older readers, Pinky & Perky). Akon`s debut album, Trouble, is also back at Number One after being briefly usurped by Bruce Springsteen last week.
Snoop Dogg`s `Signs` is unmoved at Three and there`s a new entry at Four for Eminem`s pious tribute to his daughter, Hailie. The only other new entries in this week`s Top Ten are at the back end, with Weezer`s `Beverly Hills` new at Nine (James Masterton, chart commentator for Yahoo! Launch, says it`s "exactly ten years to the week after `Buddy Holly` gave the American band their only other Top 20 hit") and Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz new at Ten with `Get Low`.
Over on the album chart there are new entries for Nine Inch Nails (Number Three), Robert Plant & Strange Sensation (Number Four) and Cream (Number Six). [... more]
