"He Can`t Play For Me Ever Again"
who: Newcastle United
what: Fine Craig Bellamy £80,000 in feud over manager`s "lies"
where: St James` Park, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
when: This week
snippet: With Monday`s transfer deadline looming, Newcastle United had received no offers for 25-year-old Welsh striker Craig Bellamy at the time of publishing and may be forced to let him go on a loan. One thing is for sure, he is not welcome at St James` Park this week.

Bellamy accused his manager of being a liar during a TV interview - he told Sky Sports News that contrary to Souness`s comments, he was not injured. He expressed concern that the club was lining up a transfer deal for him without his knowledge. Souness is reported to have privately told him this was not the case.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd responded by fining him two weeks` wages - around £80,000. Bellamy would not keep his counsel and talked to the media once again, saying "When I heard what [Souness] said about me, I was shocked. I thought not only has he gone behind my back right in front of my face, but he`s lying."
"The feud between player and manager over which position Bellamy should play and whether he was going to be sold had been simmering for four months," says The Mirror`s Simon Bird. And while it`s never too late to let bygones be bygones, this is one personality clash that seems unlikely to be defused. "As Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole discovered at Blackburn," recalls The Independent`s Tim Rich, "Souness does not do conciliation." [... more]
